The most important story you will ever tell about yourself is the
story you tell to yourself. Jim Loehr (The Power of Story, 2007)
The Hero's Journey is cognitive restructuring through narrative. It encourages returning prisoners to adopt a new story about their lives, one that is more functional and reality-based.
Robert McKee (Story, 1997) identifies two movie genres relating to changes in a prisoner's life story. The first is Redemption Plot in which "the film arcs on a moral change within the protagonist from bad to good..." The second is an Education Plot "that arcs on a deep change within the protagonist's view of life, people, or self from the negative...to the positive."
